SECURE YOUR PC!

Securing a Windows PC can be a nightmare!!!! Even worse its often a reccurring nighmare because no sooner do you lock down a system but theres a new threat or maybe even a new PC, and here we go again....

Well I've tried to make it a little easier by posting here, as accurately as I can, links to the most common and free antispyware and antivirus software.

For the novice user here's a great place to start.
1. Update your operating system, by launching internet explorer, then go to the 'TOOLS' menu at the top then selecting 'WINDOWS UPDATE' or going here. Follow the onscreen instructions, you'll have to press ok several times and you might need to reboot your system.
2. Install then update antivirus. If you don't want to pay for a program, AVG has a free one here, Avast has one here and AntiVir has one here. My personal preference is AVG, and my experience is that these free antivirus programs are as good or better than comercial products like 'Norton' and 'McAfee' and others.
3. Install then update anitispyware. Here again the best programs are free. Microsoft Defender is a must, you can download it here. Then download and install AVG antispyware called ewido, here. Also popular are Spybot and AdAware. Again personally I prefer AVG's 'ewido' and microsoft's Defender.
Most importantly you must keep the programs updated all the time. This is easily done within each program.

With all of this done you'll be as secure as can reasonably be done without spending all day worrying about it.

Another great idea to stay secure is to enable the Widows XP firewall, and one of the best things you can do to secure your system is to always run with are router between your system and your broadband modem.
